Maintenance, not cosmetics
A moss-covered roof is not just an appearance problem. Moss acts like a sponge on top of the tile, keeping it saturated through the winter so every frost works on wet material. It also breaks up and washes down into the gutters, where it forms the dam that eventually sends water down the outside of the wall.
We soft wash roofs rather than pressure wash them. High pressure strips the protective granules off concrete and fibre-cement tiles and forces water up under the laps, which is how a clean roof turns into a leaking one. Instead we scrape off the heavy growth by hand, apply a biocide, and let it kill the moss at the root over the following weeks so it weathers away.
Gutters are cleared by hand or by high-reach vacuum, then every downpipe and outlet is flushed and checked for flow. Decking is cleaned at controlled pressure along the grain, brightened to bring back the timber colour, and can be re-oiled once it has dried out.

Frequently asked
Do you pressure wash roofs?
No. We soft wash. Pressure washing strips the granular surface off concrete tiles, shortens their life and can drive water under the laps. Heavy moss is removed by hand, then a biocide does the rest over the following weeks.
How long before the roof looks clean after a biocide treatment?
Hand-scraped areas look better immediately. The biocide keeps working for roughly two to three months as rain washes the dead growth away, and the roof continues to lighten over that period. That gradual finish is normal and is the safe way to do it.
How often should gutters be cleared?
Once a year for most houses, and twice a year — late autumn and spring — if you have trees nearby or a shallow-pitch roof. Blocked gutters are one of the most common causes of damp patches on internal walls.
Do you work at height safely?
Yes. We are fully insured and use appropriate access equipment for the property, along with high-reach poles and vacuum systems where they let us work from the ground. We do not take on work we cannot reach safely.
Will you tell me if a tile is broken?
Always. We photograph anything we find — slipped or cracked tiles, a bedded ridge coming loose, a leaking gutter joint — and send it to you with the after photos. We do not carry out roof repairs ourselves, so there is no incentive for us to find problems that are not there.
Can a grey, weathered deck be brought back?
Usually yes. Grey timber is a thin oxidised layer, and cleaning plus a brightener normally restores most of the original colour. Boards that are soft when pressed are rotten rather than dirty, and those need replacing before any treatment.
